Milestones
A Timeline of Trust
Where It All Started
Our grandfather, Ramchandra Kharje, set up a single workbench in Lalbaug with three tools and an unshakeable belief that every family deserves gold they can trust. No middlemen. No compromises.
A Workshop Becomes a Store
The next generation stepped in. What had been a quiet neighbourhood workshop opened its first formal shopfront. Customers who had trusted us for 20 years brought their children, and those children brought their grandchildren.
BIS Hallmarking, First in the Area
Long before hallmarking became standard, we adopted it voluntarily. Because purity was never a marketing claim for us. It was a promise we made to every family that walked through our door.
Bridal Collections Take Shape
Brides from across Mumbai began requesting pieces designed around Maharashtrian tradition: naths, thushi, kolhapuri saaj. We hired dedicated artisans who grew up with these forms, not just with gold.
Third Generation, Same Promise
Today, Kharje Jewellers serves over 50,000 families across Maharashtra. The third generation now carries the craft forward, bringing new designs to the collection while keeping every value exactly where our grandfather left it.
The People Behind the Craft
Meet the Family
Suresh Kharje
Founder's Son, Master Craftsman
Suresh learned the craft before he learned to read. Forty years at the bench have given him an eye for detail that no machine can replicate. He still checks every bridal set by hand.
Anita Kharje
Head of Design
Anita trained in traditional Pune metalwork before bringing that knowledge back to Lalbaug. Her collections are where Maharashtra's roots meet Mumbai's rhythm.
Rohit Kharje
Third Generation, Operations
Rohit grew up watching his father examine gold under a loupe. Today he manages the store's day-to-day with the same care, making sure every customer leaves feeling like family.
Priya Kharje
Customer Relations
Priya believes that buying jewellery should feel personal, not transactional. She has helped hundreds of families find pieces for weddings, anniversaries, and everything in between.

How We Work
The Art of Making
Gold jewellery from Kharje Jewellers is not produced. It is made. There is a difference. Machines can cast and polish, but they cannot feel the moment a stone is seated perfectly, or know when a clasp needs one more pass of the file. Our craftspeople can, and do, every single day.
Metal Selection
Every batch of gold is sourced, weighed, and verified for purity before a single tool touches it.
Hand Drawing
Our artisans sketch each design by hand first. No template is used for custom and bridal pieces.
Forming and Setting
Wax models are created, cast in gold, then finished by hand. Stone setting is done under a loupe, not a machine.
Quality Check
Every piece passes through three inspections before it reaches the display cabinet, or your hands.
BIS Hallmarking
We send finished pieces for independent hallmarking. The stamp on your jewellery is not ours. It is the government's guarantee.
What Drives Us
Our Values
Our mission has never changed since 1947: bring genuinely pure, beautifully crafted jewellery to Maharashtrian families at a price that respects them. Everything else is secondary.
We measure success not in turnover but in the number of families who return for their children's weddings, having first come in as newlyweds themselves.
Purity Without Compromise
We were hallmarking our gold long before the law required it. Purity is not a feature of our jewellery. It is the foundation of everything we do.
Honest Pricing, Always
There are no hidden making charges at Kharje Jewellers. Every price reflects the true cost of the metal and the fair wage of the artisan who shaped it.
Craft Over Speed
A good piece of jewellery cannot be rushed. Our artisans take the time needed, whether that is an afternoon or a fortnight. Quality is not a deadline.
Community First
We employ local craftspeople, source locally, and give back to the neighbourhood that gave us our start. Lalbaug built us, and we intend to honour that.
